an orange like no other

We got our first shipment and 2 standouts were the garnet sweet potatoes (also called garnet or jewel yams) and the moro blood oranges. The sweet potatoes had deep red coloured skins (very vibrant compared to the dusty subdued hue you see in the ones at the supermarkets), bright orange flesh and after just 45 minutes in the oven, they had a rich sweet and almost smokey flavour.
Blood oranges are our favourite citrus. Now that they're back in season, we're hoarding cases of them. I love to eat them just the way they are, and when they're this good, they're juicy, tart and a raspberry-like sweet all at the same time. Use them in salads, baking, pair with savoury dishes, make marmalade or just juice them. They're addictively delicious.
